Letter from Chief of Cabinet of France

Dear Sir,

In a joint message with Ms Shiori Ueki and Ms Mizuki Yata, you addressed the President of the Republic to ask for his support in the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. Enclosed were 1,000 paper cranes, as symbols of peace and bearing testimony of the dreadful damage caused by the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945.

In sympathetic awareness of your mobilization, Mr François Hollande trusted me with assuring you that France is doing all its share in negotiations and talks concerning nuclear disarmament. In this respect, I can also remind you that in the fight against proliferation, arms control and disarmament, our government remains guided by firm principles in accordance with the objectives set by the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Yours truly,

Pierre Besnard

Chief of Cabinet of the President of the French Republic
